The Chase Bays Power Steering Kit for Nissan 240sx / Silvia S13, S14, S15 was designed to eliminate the common power steering ailments found in the OEM power steering setup; leaks, fluid overflow, and overheating. It also improves the aesthetics, durability, and design of your power steering system. This kit converts the factory reservoir and hoses to 100% upgraded AN hose and fittings. Everything from the reservoir to the pump to the rack (and cooler if upgraded) is replaced. All hoses and hose ends are Brown and Miller Racing (BMRS) which are the best hose/hose ends in the world. The same ones used in NASCAR and Indy Car. All fitting adapters are designed and manufactured by Chase Bays for a perfect OEM fit and leak-free installation.

At the core of this kit is our meticulously designed triple-baffled power steering reservoir, which features anti-aeration and anti-leakage capabilities. Optionally, the kit can include an upgraded Setrab oil cooler that mounts under the driver's side headlight (or centrally) for improved airflow. The reservoir is made from 6061 aluminum, anodized black, and the cap features laser etching. The reservoir body uses our aluminum bracket to mount in the factory location.

Triple Baffled Power Steering Reservoir
Our power steering reservoirs were developed after a lot of R&D. It's not as simple as putting two fittings on a fluid container. It's much more complex. The smaller fitting on the reservoir is the fluid return from the steering rack. It can return at pressures up to 120psi. When this pressure hits the fluid in the reservoir, it can cause severe aeration and fluid overflow if not properly slowed down and controlled. The higher the steering input and engine RPM, the higher the pressure. This is what generally causes fluid overflow. Many people think their power steering fluid is boiling, but most of the time it's just turbulence.

We spent a lot of engineering time on the internal design to eliminate aeration and fluid overflow. We've had overwhelming customer feedback on the performance of this PS reservoir. You can see a "chimney" inside the reservoir in the photos, and that chimney has multiple layers inside. We can't reveal all our secrets, but we guarantee you'll have zero aeration and zero overflow. Through real-world testing and computational fluid dynamics analysis, we've found that the pressure can be reduced from 120psi to 12psi in just 2 inches of fluid travel. This is just the effect of the two baffles, and there are many other innovations.

Power steering is a looped hydraulic system and requires ventilation. This cap has a unique baffled design to prevent fluid from spewing out of the vent. If you go to any road race, drift, or rally event, and look at the factory (and most aftermarket) power steering reservoirs, you'll see fluid overflowing around the reservoir by the end of the day. Our goal was to make a leak-free reservoir in 1 out of 100 cases. And we're proud to say we've achieved that goal.

Reservoir Installation
Our uniquely designed reservoir mounting bracket makes some minor changes from the OEM. The bracket itself, unlike the OEM, is compatible with S13, S14, and S15 chassis. For the S13, the bolt holes are located slightly further back on the shock tower (similar to S14 and S15), but the mounting position is roughly the same. To provide space for the wheel well, we moved the reservoir 1 inch closer to the engine.

If you have a top-mount turbo, it might interfere with the reservoir. On our mock-up chassis, we use a top-mount GT2871R and there is no interference. Please refer to the installation photos. Hoses and Adapters
The high-pressure rack-to-pump hose is -6AN stainless steel with a Teflon PTFE lining and black PVC coating. This coating prevents wear from contact with metal or other hoses. The -6AN rack-to-reservoir hose and -10AN reservoir-to-pump hose are made of black nylon-braided stainless steel for abrasion resistance. They are reinforced. The kit includes high-end black aluminum AN fittings and metric-to-AN adapters to convert the rack and pump to AN standards.

We've upgraded the OEM rack connection. Instead of sealing washers or flare seals, we use an internal O-ring seal, so the hex bolt may not appear fully seated. However, this is not an issue as the seal occurs at the bottom of the fitting. Since S-chassis racks have deep threads, we've produced our own custom-length adapters and use O-rings that are twice as thick as OEM. This ensures a leak-free power steering system for years to come.

Fluid Cooler
As an optional cooler, we offer the Chase Bays inline heatsink fluid cooler. This compact 12-inch cooler is easy to install, compact, and aesthetically pleasing, and has been proven to reduce fluid temperatures by 20 degrees. It also features leak-free -6AN connections.
